Gorse Covert Junction Railway. Origins. I began my interestin model railways as a child with an Hornby double 0 layout running on 3-rail. later I ventured in to N guage, but during the summer of 1980 I read a book about the Lynton & Barnstaple railway; I was hooked on narrow gauge. I converted my N guage into 009 and scratch built locos, coaches and wagons using the N gauge chassis. In late 2002 my interest was rekindled and I up scaled to 0-16.5 with some 0 gauge. So now having spent several years building loco kits and rolling stock plus a number of scratch building rolling stock I am now ready to actually commence building a suitable layout. This will be a rather small 'L' shaped shunting Layout.
I have actually constructed two baseboards to form a straight layout of 2M long with the view to fitting a fiddle yard. There are two gauges; 0-16.5 and 0. These two base boards do not fit very well in the space available, so a revised L will be constructed, hopefully this will be up and running by the end of 2017. That is to say hopefully all the track will be laid and wired allowing trains to run. The buildings will probably not be finished till the end of 2018.
I still have a few locomotives to complete along with a rail car. All of my locomotives are fitted with ESU DCC sound decoders contolled by an NCE power cab controller.
Update July 2020.
All locos are complete, but the plastic based double fairlee is too light to pull more than a couple of wagons, this will have to be replaced by a brass version.
Buildings are not yet complete, but getting there. |
