The Coal Creek Branch was founded in 1934 by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad. With the discovery of a large coal seam under Flat Creek Mountain, the railroad pushed lines into the backwoods. Upon reaching Flat Creek Mountain the railroad ended the line. About 3/4 of a mile from the Flat Creek Mine, the town of Jefferson was founded |
