The SLCR started as a railroad owned by the Lumber Company to transport logs from the woods to the saw mill. They gradually purchased used freight cars, mostly box cars and flat cars, from adjacent railroads to assure prompt delivery and availability. They also purchased a Baldwin S-12 to move logs promptly to the mill. Rather than do entire re-paints, patches were put over previous markings.
They now service both the woods but also a hump yard and industrial area with switching and building strings for transport to the mainline.
The track and industry is predominately rural and passenger service is limited to an old timer combine car. |
