The port of Milwaukee WI on Jones Island
Winter 1969-1970 |

Jones Island, just south of downtown Milwaukee, was once a marshy island peopled with European fisherfolk until the city rebuilt it into a port facility. Served by both the Milwaukee Road and the CNW, both the C&O and Grand Trunk had carferry landings there. My layout, in a 19 by 14 foot “frog,” is a pure switching operation. The Milwaukee has a 4 track yard (Stowell) while the CMW has minimal yard space along its mainline to Chicago. |
