That's Right – A Freighter In HO Scale!

This impressive model is patterned after a St. Lawrence "canaller".

While canallers have the appearance of a typical freighter, they were much shorter as their size was restricted by the locks on the St. Lawrence River prior to the 1959 opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway.

For the modeler, this makes the canaller an ideal prototype as no selective compression is required to have a layout-sized boat.

Suitable for most modeling eras, these boats sailed from the turn of the century – with some surviving up into the early 1980s – carrying common commodities such as coal, grain, cement, and iron ore.
