Layout-Ready Crossing Towers
The Elevated Crossing Tower With Gates is based on a typical prototype used by a variety of North American railroads. These towers housed a gateman who manually raised and lowered crossing gates to stop traffic when a train was coming. They were elevated so the gateman could see down the tracks over traffic and other low-level obstructions. Elevated towers were usually placed at busy grade crossings where frequent train moves required additional street traffic safeguards.
