Among the most common rail-served businesses, metal-covered grain elevators like Valley Growers Association first appeared early in the 20th century when corrugated metal siding became a popular exterior building material. More durable than their wooden counterparts, many sprang up as older wooden elevators were replaced or sheathed with metal siding. A segmented trackside loading pipe is included so you can simulate loading box cars or covered hoppers.
